Dr. Merfeld is originally from Onalaska, WI. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of La Crosse and worked as a clinical laboratory technologist at Mayo Clinic before pursuing his dental degree from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. After completing his DDS, he returned to Rochester, where he works full-time as a general dentist.

As a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD), Dr. Merfeld has demonstrated a commitment to continuing education and excellence in dentistry. He has special focus in oral surgery, including the removal of impacted wisdom teeth, implantology, and digital dentistry. His advanced training and skills in these areas ensure that patients receive the best possible care for their oral health needs. Dr. Merfeld is also licensed in I.V. conscious sedation, providing a higher level of comfort and care for his patients during complex procedures.

Dr. Merfeld’s expertise extends beyond general dentistry. He serves as a consultant for the Southern Minnesota Medical Examiner Office, assisting with dental identifications and bitemark analysis. His involvement in forensic dentistry highlights his comprehensive skill set and dedication to the field.

Dr. Merfeld is actively involved in several professional organizations, including serving as the president of the Zumbro Valley Dental Society. He is also a member of the American Society of Forensic Dentistry and participates in a local Spear Study Club, Progressive Orthodontics, and the American Academy of Clear Aligners. His dedication to continuous learning ensures that he stays at the forefront of dental advancements and technologies.

When not treating his patients or traveling for continuing education, Dr. Merfeld enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. During the cold winter months, you can typically find him in his workshop restoring vintage pinball and arcade machines.
